Three sought after man shot in Chapel Hill home invasion

Three men were inside the apartment, at 104 Jackie Robinson Way, shortly before 6 p.m. when the victim got home, police said. One of the men fired a single gunshot as they fled the apartment.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to UNC Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tana Rhom was at her sister's house when she heard a loud pop at a nearby house.

"My son was in the tub, and I ran out and asked my sister, 'What was that noise?'" Rhom said. "She said it sounded like somebody just shot a gun."

Her sister, Laurie Cobb, also heard the shot.

"I thought it was a firecracker," Cobb said.

Rhom said she realized it was a shooting when she saw blue lights flashing two doors down.

"When we walked outside, we were in shock," she said. "Chapel Hill is so calm. We're not used to this."

Police are looking for any information about the break-in and shooting. The intruders were described as tall, black men in dark clothing. One has dreadlocks and was reportedly wearing a burgundy coat, police said.
