Three Students Injured In Durham Bus Accident

e-mail print friendly

Three students from Merrick-Moore Elementary School were taken to the hospital after a traffic accident Monday afternoon.

The school bus, which was carrying 39 students, was going north on Midland Terrace in Durham when it was struck in the right side by a pickup truck with a trailer full of debris.

Officials say the truck, which was driven by Francisco Jose Yanez Moralez of Carrboro, was going west on Camden Avenue when the incident happened.

Moralez, who was not injured, was charged with running a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Three students on the bus were transported to Duke University Hospital. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
