Durham Police Seek Information About Bank Robberies

The most recent was Monday morning.

The first robbery was reported on Jan. 27 at 1:38 p.m. Two employees of T.J. Maxx were walking across the parking lot to make a deposit when a man armed with a gun confronted them and demanded money.

The man grabbed a deposit bag from one employee and fled in a champagne-colored Toyota Tercel, which was driven by a second male.

The suspect was described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, 5-5 to 5-7 and 160 to 170 pounds. He wore his hair in a short Afro and had a mustache. He was wearing dark blue and white ball cap, blue jeans and a black leather coat.

Witnesses were unable to provide a description of the driver.

The second robbery was reported around 10 a.m. Monday. An employee of the Texaco Zip Mart on Chapel Hill Road was getting out of his car to make a deposit when a man ran up to him, sprayed an unknown chemical in his eyes and demanded the victim's money.

The robber grabbed three bags from the victim and jumped in a waiting late 1980s white Chevrolet Astro van with a dent in the right front corner. The van, which was driven by a second male, was last seen going south on University Drive.

One suspect was described as a black male, 40 to 45 years old, with a dark complexion and a short beard. He was wearing a green jacket and an orange hat.

The second suspect is described as a black male, 40 to 45 years old, 5-8 and 200 pounds. He had a light brown complexion and a short beard. He was wearing a green jacket.
