'Occupy Raleigh' protesters arrested at Crabtree Valley Mall
Six members of the local anti-Wall Street "Occupy" movement were arrested Friday afternoon after staging a protest at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
Posted — UpdatedRaleigh Police Department Spokesman Jim Sughrue said officers assisted the mall's police unit in transport the protesters for processing at the Wake County jail.
The six – Jennifer Schradie, Paul Ehrlich, Derek Cronmiller, Emily Galvin, Charles Hancock and Patrick O'Neil – face charges of disorderly conduct and second-degree trespassing.
Sughrue said that Crabtree officials told the Occupy Raleigh group that it couldn't demonstrate on mall property and that Raleigh police offered to watch over a protest on public sidewalks next to the mall.
Mall police arrested the protesters around 2:45 p.m. when the group began to demonstrate in the mall's food court, Sughrue said.
"Families choose Crabtree Valley Mall to conduct their holiday shopping, and it's our goal to provide them with a safe and enjoyable shopping atmosphere during the holiday season," Geist said.
