Suspect In Durham Home Invasion Dies

DURHAM, N.C. — Police in Durham are investigating an apparent home invasion that ended in the shooting death of one of the alleged suspects.

Police said officers responded to an armed robbery in progress call around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Roane Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they found James Steven Thorpe, 30, of Durham, lying on the porch. Thorpe suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to Duke University Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said Thorpe, who was identified as a suspect, got into an altercation with one of the residents inside the house and was shot.

The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
