Authorities Have Busy Day Friday Dealing With Accidents On I-40

e-mail print friendly

Authorities have had their hands full with a series of accidents Friday morning on Interstate 40 in Durham County.

Earlier this morning, four people

were injured

when their vehicle overturned on Interstate 40.

Officials said their vehicle overturned around 5:44 a.m., bringing traffic to a standstill at the N.C. 55 interchange.

Another accident followed more than 5 hours later when witnesses say a tractor-trailer came up on westbound traffic near the Highway 751 exit. Authorities say the traffic was stopped due to another accident on the interstate. The tractor-trailer did not stop in time, causing a chain reaction accident. Five cars were involved in the accident.

Three people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The truck driver, whose name is not available, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

After authorities cleared that accident, two trucks and a car were involved in another accident on I-40.
