DURHAM, N.C. — A Raleigh man was fatally injured Tuesday night after losing control of his car on Interstate 40 near the N.C. 55 exit in southern Durham.
Ramiro Archila Hernandez, 55, of 3109 Stanhope Avenue, Raleigh, was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am east in the left lane of I-40 around 8:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.
The car ran off the left side of the highway and then swerved back across the road. The car ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment, where it rolled over several times.
Hernandez, who was ejected from the Grand Am, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, Wilfredo Castillo, 29, of 907 Method Road in Raleigh, was treated at Duke University Medical Center and released.
Investigators said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the accident. The investigation is continuing.
