Durham School Board Approves Construction Bid On New School

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Tempers flared Monday night at a Durham school board meeting during a discussion of construction bids for a new elementary school.

School board member Jackie Wagstaff wanted copies of all the bids, but she was told it would cost too much.

The board later approved a contract that awards more than 11 percent of the project to minority-owned firms.

The board has yet to decide how to handle Wagstaff, who was convicted of falsifying documents when she worked for a non-profit organization.
