FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Army Capt. Joe Jorgensen wasn't due to return to Fayetteville from a deployment in Iraq until December, but he got back early and decided to surprise his family at the Carolina Panthers game in Charlotte on Sunday.

Before the game, a video message from Jorgensen to his family was played on the big screen.

“To see him up on the screen, then standing in the end zone was overwhelming, really incredible,” his wife, Andrea Jorgensen, said Friday.

Joe Jorgensen, who is with the 18th Airborne Corps out of Fort Bragg, is easily sliding back into what his wife calls "family chaos" involving their five children – Luke, 8, Jozlyn, 6, Kate, 4, Todd, 2, and 2-month-old Isabel. He said it makes him appreciate what his wife has been going through for the past 11 months.

During his deployment, the family kept in touch through letters and Skype. Although it was rough, they aren't complaining.

"We signed up for it. We love the military, and we're grateful to be in the military," Andrea Jorgensen said.

Since they have moved around so much, the Jorgensens don’t have a specific football team they root for. Now, they say they are Panthers fans for life.
