The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a man who had been arguing with his girlfriend on Sunday.

According to investigators, deputies were called to the scene of the shooting at 1213 Division Place in Fayetteville at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday. Deputies said that, when they arrived, they found 43-year-old Billy Robert Sessoms in the living room of the residence he shared with his mother, with a single gunshot wound in his torso.

Sessoms was reportedly alive when deputies arrived. But he died upon arrival at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Sessoms' girlfriend, 46-year-old Pamela Sue Meshaw, also was at the residence when deputies arrived. She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

According to deputies, Meshaw had been dating Sessoms since August of 2002, although they had known each other for approximately 20 years.
