Fort Bragg Soldier In Trouble After Reporting Drug Theft

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh teenager and a Fort Bragg soldier face several charges after an attempted armed robbery.

Police say 16-year Bennie Dunlap of Raleigh, armed with a handgun, entered the apartment of Fort Bragg soldier Linda Isabel Gonzalez around midnight Thursday and allegedly stole a pound of marijuana.

Police say Gonzalez, along with her roommate and a friend, followed Dunlap's vehicle as he tried to make his escape and called 911 while following him.

The Fayetteville Police Department located the vehicle and apprehended Dunlap, along with the driver of the vehicle. Authorities said Gonzalez did not immediately report to sheriff's detectives that the robber had taken the marijuana.

Gonzalez later admitted to authorities that the marijuana was stolen and did not want to pursue charges regarding the robbery.

Gonzalez has been charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver and one count of maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling controlled substances.

Dunlap has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver. He is being held on $85,000 bond.

The driver of the vehicle has not been charged. But authorities say they are still conducting their investigation.
