— Raleigh police investigators are looking for at least two men who they believe might be involved in seven armed robberies and an attempted robbery at convenience stores and chain restaurants within the past three weeks.

In each case, the men have taken steps to conceal their appearances, wearing bulky coats and bandanas, and have used a combination of long guns and handguns during each crime, police said. There have been not been any reports of injuries.

Investigators said they want to stop the men before the crimes become violent.

"Obviously because firearms are involved, we're really concerned for the potential of danger of the public, to the clerks, the people working, the people in the neighborhood," Sgt. M. J. Jackson said.

The first robbery happened at 11:09 p.m. Oct. 26 at Papa John's, at 5260 Capital Blvd. Five days later, on Oct. 31, Peace Street Market, at 804 W. Peace St., was robbed at 11:45 p.m.

In the Peace Street Market robbery, one of the men was wearing a blue NBA "throwback" jacket with the logo for the Syracuse Nationals on the back. The jacket is believed to have "1949" on the left sleeve and "NBA" on the right sleeve. The man was wearing dark-colored jeans and dark-colored Converse Chuck Taylor-style high-top shoes with white trim.

"The law does not permit the use of deadly force solely to protect property, or to prevent theft, or to regain stolen property. An owner CANNOT shoot at a thief - before, during, or after a theft. The same rule prohibits deadly force to prevent injury or vandalism to property. A different rule applies if life is imminently threatened at the same time property is taken. Deadly force used to prevent an armed robbery is force used to protect life, not to protect property."

See where it says "owner". I repeat a concealed carry permit is not a badge. Unless you are in fear of your life taking the law into your own hands is probably not a good idea. I agree that you can also defend another, but in this case there were 2 armed men with weapons already drawn and no one was injured.

And I have had concealed carry permits in WA, PA, and NC since 1987. Just renewed NC this year.

"@ fvusaf1204: Which store? I live right near there & find it unnerving that someone would have the gall to rob a store right near where I live. I was on a wlak last night and saw 2 cars, each driving VERY fast near there...I wonder if either was involved in the robbery on Chatham."

scotchman was robbed....so yes rebelyell55 cary does have crime, they just try to keep it on the down low for obvious reasons

    7 robberies in 2 weeks.....
The times of the robberies seem pretty bold too..
Oh well... its almost holiday season so its time for the people who do not work to start figuring out ways to provide during the holidays....

    This is ridiculous!?!?!?!?!?!

Most of these are 'typical' targets for armed robbers, EXCEPT ONE. The little mom & pop pizza joint that was hit doesn't look like much from the street. There's never anyone parked there, never a crowd. The location is drab.

Only someone who lives near there would know how much business they do. These guys have some connection to that area.

Like someone said yesterday...where are the images from all the supposed cameras these stores claim to have in their parking lots? A vehicle description would go a long way in this investigation...

Hum. The perp's match a certain profile. But certain people who speak for the profiled never speak up about the crimes and how to control & reduce them.

You can only use deadly force if confronted with deadly force unless you are in your castle. What was that "Charles Bronson" movie? De?th Wish.

Really hoping these brain trusts get cocky and careless and are caught soon.

  • Telecomtodd Nov 15, 2011

If they come into a store I am in with weapons and are robbing the store......if I am armed I will be afraid for my life......shoot them.

You are fully justified, defendable under NCGS § 14‑51.1.

I really hope these guys get caught, I can't stand seeing these "sprees" go on and on. I wouldn't be surprised if they just so happen to rob the wrong place and wind up staring down a loaded barrel pointed right between their eyes. People will eventually take matters into their own hands if this continues to escalate.
