SBI Investigates Shooting By Durham Police Officer

DURHAM, N.C. — The State Bureau Of Investigation is looking into an early-morning incident in Durham in which a police officer claimed he had no choice but to shoot a man.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded to a call on Omega Drive just before 1 a.m. Sunday. When they got to the scene, a man stepped out of a car with his hands in his pockets.

Police said the man refused to put his hands where they could see them. An officer said he felt threatened and shot the man.

The victim was taken to Durham Regional Hospital.

Authorities haven't released any names - nor the victim's condition.
