FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that sent a 23-year-old woman to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputies say that Jessica H. Shepard was taken by a friend to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center around 3:30 a.m. Saturday after being shot three times during an argument with her live-in boyfriend. Shepard was treated for her injuries and released.
The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Alonzo McCall. McCall has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Because the incident involved domestic violence, McCall is being held without bond in the Cumberland County Jail awaiting a first appearance in District Court on Monday morning.
