Triangle Bus Systems Could Merge

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Triangle's six bus systems could soon become one.

Local leaders and transit officials are planning to hire a consulting firm next month to figure out the best way to combine systems from Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill.

The study is expected to take six months.

If the local bus systems merge, the change would take effect by the end of 2007, when a rail line around the Triangle is also expected to begin service.
