Cumberland Teen Shot On Halloween Making Progress In Recovery

Parker is in therapy more than four hours a day to regain his strength. He also has to use a tube in his throat to help him breathe.

"I feel like I'm getting stronger every day," he said.

Last Halloween, the 12-year-old was shot in the chest on the front porch of Ja'Crystal Fenwick's home. Fenwick was shot and killed. Her uncle is charged with the shootings. Deputies say Parker and Fenwick were not the intended targets.

Parker was in intensive care for several weeks. At one point, he took a turn for the worse and doctors had to revive him, but now he is expected to make a full recovery. His mother, Eginee Phillips, is by his side every day.

"We've had bumps along the way, but we knew he was going to get here," she said.

Together, they look forward to the day he gets to go home from the hospital. Parker said he already knows what he wants to do when he gets out.

"Ride my bike and play basketball," he said.

Parker said he has lost nearly 40 pounds, but he expects to gain it back quickly, now that he can eat whatever he wants. He said his new year's resolution is to walk again in 2003.
