A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Apex was arrested in New Jersey on Saturday night, police said.

Gordon Goodwin, 22, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on common law robbery charges after he called his mother from an Atlantic City hotel room. She contacted Apex police, who arranged to have her son taken into custody without incident by Atlantic City police.

On Friday, Diana Goodwin urged her son to turn himself in during an interview with WRAL News.

No additional information was released.

Investigators say Goodwin robbed a Sun Trust bank inside a Kroger grocery store at 940 U.S. Highway 64 on Monday.

Are you sure this isn't post-op girl? I mean... we are talking about Chapel Hill.

Way to go to the mother.. Most parents would have covered up for their kids. Please get this boy help. He deserves to be punished for both. He needs to be ashamed of himself about to graduate and pulled a stunt like this. Shame on him..

And I say again, bravo to his mom for doing the right thing. So many parents out there would have hidden their kids from the police. I'm sure it was hard, but good job.

Seriously, it is more than likely something like gambling debts that would drive a student to do something like this. The fact that he went to Atlantic City just reinforces the notion.

Wasn't he scheduled to graduate at the end of the semester?
