this holiday weekend than at any time in the year. With that in mind, there are some things to do to make your trip an enjoyable one.
RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said more than 200,000 people will pass through the airport the week of Thanksgiving.
Wednesday morning, lines at ticket counters formed early and travel plans got a little tricky when a late autumn snowstorm caused problems in the Northeast. RDU spokesperson Mindy Hamlin said 25 flights were delayed and two were cancelled due to inclement weather.
Officials are also working to get passengers moving quickly through the airport. Workers with the Transportation Security Administration have a timeclock set up right before the security checkpoint to track how long passengers wait.
"They don't want anyone waiting in line too long so they have added a lot of staff for the holiday season to make sure people move through as quickly as possible," Hamlin said.
Hamlin also said the most important things to remember are to arrive at the airport two hours early and don't carry sharp objects in your carry-on luggage.
"We recommend you look through your carry-on bag and see if you have any knives or scissors, and if you want to take those with you, put those in your checked luggage," she said.
