Lockdown Of 325th Airborne Infantry Lifted

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The lockdown of nearly 100 soldiers at Fort Bragg has ended.

Members of the 325th Airborne Infantry Unit, a segment of the 82nd Airborne Division, had been confined to their barracks during an investigation into the theft of a pair of night vision goggles valued at $4,000.

The 82nd Airborne Command ended the lockdown on Wednesday.

The goggles still have not been found, and a criminal investigation into the theft will continue. But the Command said it had exhausted every immediate avenue and decided not to keep 100 soldiers from seeing their families on Thanksgiving because of perhaps one lone thief.

The lockdown was the second this year. The same unit lost a 9 mm pistol earlier this year, which also caused a lockdown. That gun was never found.
