HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Afer an intense three-day search, there is still no closure for a Cumberland County family searching for a missing loved one.

More than 200 volunteers from across the country spent Friday through Sunday combing a wooded area where Kent Jacobs was last seen eight months ago.

Sunday, searchers thought they had a break when they found some bones. Detectives put up crime tape, but further examination showed the bones to be the remains of a dead animal. The bones were sent to the state Medical Examiner's office for testing.

Saturday, searchers found shoes and clothing, but it is still unclear whether they belong to Jacobs.

Jacobs, 42, is a mentally challenged man who disappeared near his mother's home on March 10.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at (910) 323-1500 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS.
