RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Raleigh banks were robbed within three hours of each other Tuesday. The incidents mark the 13th and 14th bank robberies in the city this year.

Raleigh police said a man robbed the BB &T branch off Six Forks Road around 2:30 p.m., but did not get what he wanted.

Police said the male suspect grabbed a bag thinking it was full of cash. It turns out the bag was empty.

A few hours later, police said a man robbed the RBC Centura branch located inside the Progress Energy building downtown. The robbery was caught on surveillance tape.

Police said the same RBC Centura branch was robbed in July.

Ed Aycock, of the North Carolina Bankers Association said banks are taking security measures seriously.

"There are a lot of security measures that are not visible to the public, and for obvious reasons, we can't discuss any of those," Aycock said.

Aycock said security directors are constantly looking at ways to improve safety for bank customers and employees.
