Election Officials Finish Counting Ballots In Chatham County

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Chatham County officials have finally finished recounting thousands of troubled ballots.
On Wednesday, election officials said problems began in eight precincts where the initial voter count did not match the numbers tallied by voting machines. By state law, officials had to manually recount the ballots.
Elections officials finished the hand count about 3 a.m. Thursday.
Officials said there are apparently not enough bad ballots to change any races.
Officials will count provisional ballots Friday before certifying the election.
