Police Seek Answers In Death Of Goldsboro Woman

Posted Updated

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Police are looking into the death of a Goldsboro woman.

Family members say 25-year-old Latisha Kornegay was working hard to support her two sons. About an hour after she opened the Check n' Go in Goldsboro for business Saturday morning, police say someone killed her.

"She was always smiling, just a sweet person," said Stefanie Hawkins, who worked next door to Kornegay. "She's got two small children, sweet little boys, and this is heart-wrenching, really heart-wrenching, because you don't expect it to happen next door."

Kornegay worked at Check n' Go for about a year and a half. Customers said Kornegay treated them like friends.

"There wasn't a time that you would walk in the door and she wouldn't holler your name and greet you," customer Sheila Cordell said.

Police say they do not know the cause of death yet, though they are confident Latisha was murdered. Autopsy results are expected this week.
