RDU International Reopens After Temporary Shutdown

Posted Updated

RDU INTERNATIONAL — RDU International has reopened after the airport was temporarily shut down for Sunday following a security incident.

At 5:20 p.m., officials say a man went through a security checkpoint at Terminal A. The metal detector went off, and officials went to wand him.

However, officials say the passenger passed through to the concourse without being wanded. TSA closed Terminal A and the Terminal A extension as a result.

The airport was shut down for approximately 50 minutes. Officials were later able to catch the passenger.

Officials say the man who passed through to the concourse did not realize he was called back after going through the metal detectors.

The passenger was later rescreened and headed to his flight and the airport was reopened.
