Spidermania Spreads To Triangle

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Thousands of fans of the movie "Spiderman" are expected to wait in lines at midnight on Nov. 1 to buy their copies of the movie in DVD and VHS.

Numerous events are planned for Oct. 31 across the country, including New York City, where a person dressed as Spiderman will scale the U.N. building amid a large display of pyrotechnics.

Several events will be held in the Triangle in preparation for Friday's DVD release of the top-grossing movie of 2002. Blockbuster Video in Raleigh will host a celebration that will include a live spider exhibit sponsored by the Museum of Life and Science and a silly string "web-slinging" contest.

A percentage of proceeds from the first day of local sales of the DVD will benefit Boys and Girls Club of Wake Forest.

"Spiderman" is expected to be one of the top-selling videos and DVDs of the year.
