Campground At Umstead Park Closed Indefinitely

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Some area campers will have to find a new spot to pitch their tent.

The campground at Umstead State Park has been closed indefinitely. Officials say there is an unusual number of dead tree limbs within the tree canopy.

A contractor will have to remove the limbs. Experts say the drought, the lingering effects of Hurricane Fran or the natural aging process could be to blame for the dead tree limbs.

The 28-site campground was scheduled to be closed for the winter on Dec. 15.
