Military Police Officer Shot, Killed At Fort Bragg

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A military police officer was killed during an altercation at Fort Bragg.

Specialist Jacob Aaron Jarrell, 21, a military policeman from the 108th Military Police Company, was shot during an altercation Saturday. Military officials say Jarrell was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Jarrell was transported by ambulance to Womack Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Another Fort Bragg soldier, 21-year-old Sherman Terrell Cooley, who is assigned to the 58th Maintenance Company, 1st Corps Support Command, was apprehended by Fort Bragg authorities and FBI special agents off post at approximately early Monday morning in connection with the shooting.

Officials said Cooley is being investigated for murder, obstruction of justice, and illegal transportation of a firearm onto Ft. Bragg, which is a violation of a lawful order.

Military officials say the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
