PERSON COUNTY, N.C. — Three Person County jailers have been demoted after a month-long investigation of allegations of sex behind bars.
Over several days in September, officials say male and female inmates were able to break into a canteen room separating their jail pods. Jailers say men traded marijuana for sex with the women.
The investigation found three jailers failed to make timely rounds that might have prevented the activity. An inmate who said jailers gave them pot failed a polygraph test given by the State Bureau of Investigation.
