Teen Charged With Torturing, Killing Garner Dogs

Posted Updated

GARNER, N.C. — Police in Garner said a 14-year-old tortured and killed two dogs during a robbery on Wednesday.

Officers said three people broke into a home on Springview Trail and stole two pistols and a Sony Playstation. Police have not recovered the weapons.

One dog was beaten and stabbed and the other stabbed, police said.

Police charged a 14-year-old with felonious breaking and entering and larceny, and felony cruelty to animals in the death of the pug and chihuahua at the home. He is being held in juvenile detention.

The 14-year-old told police he killed the dogs as part of a gang initiation and that he broke into the home alone. Detective Cathy Wood said evidence does not support that claim.

Jerry Landrum Bonds, 21, was charged with possession of stolen property and accessory to breaking and entering after the fact. He is being held in the Wake County jail under $10,000 bond. Police said Bonds was on probation for conviction of felony embezzlement.

Robert Lewis Gunter III, 17, was charged with breaking and entering, felonious larceny and possession of stolen property. He was released on $5,000 bond.

Police said charges are pending against an unnamed 16-year-old, but an arrest is expected.
