Wake Parents Speak Out About School Reassignment

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Some angry Wake County parents want change, and they are organizing a fight against the school district's reassignment policy.

Nearly 200 people from Cary, Garner, and Apex packed the Cary Town Council chambers Thursday evening for a forum with Cary Mayor Glen Lang and Garner Mayor Sam Bridges.

They are starting a 20-member joint task force that will meet to discuss all the reassignment issues and then present a united front to the school system.

Some parents believe the Wake County school system has denied them the right to send their children to magnet or year-round schools, depending on where they live.

Many students are being forced to attend Swift Creek Elementary or Dilliard Drive Elementary School, much to their parents' dismay.
