Task Force Created To Stop Rash Of Johnston Church Robberies
Posted October 2, 2002
JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — The Johnston County Sheriff's Office formed a special task force to stop thieves who are stealing from churches.
Fifteen churches have been broken into since July. The latest church break-in occurred at the Unity Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield.
Many church members are welcoming the task force, but they say they still fear the thieves will come back.
Authorities say the thieves have taken everything from cash to audio equipment. Authorities say the thieves have even taken a microwave. So far, there are no suspects.
