Brick Mailboxes Outlawed In Rocky Mount

Posted Updated

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The Rocky Mount City Council voted to ban new brick mailboxes Monday night.

Officials say the brick mailboxes are a danger to drivers. The council also requires current brick mailbox owners to sign a disclaimer agreeing that the city will not be held responsible if someone hits the mailbox and suffers injury.

"If they don't want any more here in Rocky Mount, at least leave us alone. Some of these mailboxes have been here for 30 years," said homeowner Fred Horns.

The City Council said drivers are safer with the new regulation.

Dozens of homeowners said the City Council has more important matters to address than the size of mailboxes.
