RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Forest may merge its water and sewer service with the city of Raleigh.
Officials say a merger is not likely to happen until Raleigh takes care of the problems at its wastewater treatment plant. The city was fined for overspraying sludge on crop fields. Expanding the plant and treating nearby groundwater could cost the city millions.
Heavy rains recently caused a sewage spill at Oxford's treatment plant. A nearby fishing creek had to be cleaned.
