Suspect In Raleigh Laundromat Murder Arrested

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A man charged with first-degree murder is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday.

Raleigh police arrested Armando Ortez Wednesday night.

Ortez, 21, is charged with murdering 30-year-old Nguyen Truong while robbing the Brightwash Laundromat on West South Street in late July.

Officers said the arrest came after Ortez was spotted in a convenience store Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., police said Ortez entered the store located a few hundred feet from where police believe he and another man killed the laundromat owner.

The store owner, who recognized the suspect, called police.

"Could you believe he came back in the store just a block from where this happened? I can't believe it. He just dis this like a couple weeks ago and he came back into the store. That's crazy," store owner Arazzak Alhakkari said.

Police believe Ortez had help carrying out the crime, but they have not released a description of an alleged accomplice.

Ortez is being held at the Wake County jail without bond.
