Cumberland County Pet Owners Face Fines

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County residents could soon face fines for failing to tell the truth about their pets' vaccinations.

Monday, county commissioners gave

animal control

officers the authority to fine pet owners $100 dollars for lying about rabies vaccinations.

Animal control officers said many pet owners will tell them their animals are vaccinated when they are not. Officials hope the new civil penalty will work as a deterrent.

In Cumberland County, all dogs and cats over four months old are required to vaccinated against rabies.
