Fayetteville Chamber President Apologizes For Actions, Offers Resignation
The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in the city's All America City designation, but now the group's leader is charged with soliciting a prostitute, and he said he is willing to resign.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to police, 64-year-old Billy Davidson was cited on July 25 for offering an undercover female officer on Bell Street $20 to have sex.
When reached out of town on Friday, Davidson said,
"Regardless of the true circumstances of the situation, it does not reflect well and I apologize for that. I'm willing to do what's necessary and what's right."
Davidson has led the chamber for two years. At one time, Davidson served as chairman of the Fayetteville chamber board.
Davidson said that this incident is not what it seems. He said he has apologized to the chamber board and was willing to offer his resignation.
Dr. Loleta Foster, head of the board of directors for the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, said they will not make any decision until Davidson returns from a previously scheduled vacation.
"We have such a strong chamber and board of directors and will continue with the work of the Chamber, and whatever the outcome is, we will move forward," she said.
Mortgage broker Kalvin McDaniel, who moved his business downtown a year ago, said what happened to Davidson will not reflect badly on those efforts.
"As far as the chamber, I think he does a great job," McDaniel said. "This is not going to show a negative image. He's an individual. As far as the Chamber, it's an entity of itself."
Davidson is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.
