Durham Firefighters Respond To Fire At American Tobacco Complex

Posted July 12, 2002

— Durham firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at the American Tobacco complex on Thursday.

Fans exiting the Durham Bulls Athletic Park after a baseball game noticed smoke coming from the building and called the authorities.

According to officials, the fire started on the second floor of the Reed building at about 9 p.m.

Ten units arrived at the scene and put out the fire quickly.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started.

Firefighters say this is the second time in a month that they have responded to a fire at the complex.

No one was hurt in either incident.

The American Tobacco complex is owned by WRAL's parent company, Capitol Broadcasting.
