Hillsborough Pond Latest Casualty Of Drought

"It's never been like this before. We've always had at least 4 inches of water or more," said resident Richard Weaver. "It's like going from an oasis to the desert."

Weaver is doing what he can to save the fish that used to call the pond home. He brought out his kids' pool to give the fish one last chance at survival.

"We just scooped up as many as we could," he said. "We went out early in the morning and did it until late in the afternoon."

A groundwater pipe that used to flow into the pond stopped working, adding to the problem.

"From our house we could see the pond and now we just look at a big mud hole," a resident said. "We would love to have our pond back."

Residents are holding out hope that water will return to the pond.In the meantime, the dead fish are piling up.
