features homes from national builders in several cities around the country including the Triangle. Beazer Homes has been active on the Internet for seven years and is the featured eBay builder in the Triangle area.

"Throughout, researchers have discovered 60 percent of our customers do their home-buying research on the Internet," said Suzannah Higby, marketing coordinator for Beazer Homes.

One 1,400-square-foot, two-story traditional home in Fuquay-Varina is one of the homes Beazer is auctioning on the Internet. The lowest bid on the home must be $134,493. If you check it out and really like it, you can buy it now for $140,055.

"The buy-it now price was set specifically for a customer who fell in love with their dream home and decided not to take the chance of going through the auction," Higby said.

Even though, you can check out pictures and floor plans online, the advice from eBay and Beazer Homes is to visit the home you want to buy before you buy it.

"Getting the feel for the neighborhood and for the home itself is the intention of this program," Higby said.

Before you make a bid on the eBay homes, you must fill out a preauthorization form to make sure you qualify. Once the bidding starts, you can see where you stand. If you win the bid, you make a contract and close on the house the old-fashioned way.

James Wahlbrink of the Raleigh-Wake County Home Builders Association said online auctions are opportunities to get homes in front of the public.

"It's just another marketing tool that is out there to get people's attention to see the value of owning a new home," Wahlbrink said.

The eBay New Home Auction ends June 24. Bids have not been coming in quickly, but Beazer Homes said it plans to continue using the eBay auction and may increase it to once a quarter.
