UNC May Sink Swim Test Requirement

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill may sink its swim test.

A university committee has recommended eliminating its

swim test requirement

.

The swim test was implemented for soliders training in World War II and it soon became part of the curriculum.

Right now, students cannot graduate from UNC without passing the university's swim test. A student may be excused from the test only if recommended for an excuse by a physician from the Student Health Service and approved by the Director of the Physical Education Activities Program or if they have taken part in lifeguard or scuba training.
