Fine Silver In Demand By Raleigh Robbers

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police are warning people tonight -- keep a close eye on fine silver. It's a hot item.

During the past year and a half, thieves have hit 20 upscale homes inside the beltline.

The latest robbery happened Wednesday with the theft of $40,000 worth of silver.

The victim is concerned thieves will strike again.

"It makes you mad that somebody's been in your house and stolen your things that you've worked hard for. Mainly, I've felt more anger than anything," he said.

Police said thefts like these increase during bad economic times, when silver and gold become more valuable.

Investigators believe a small, organized group is responsible for all the thefts.
