Eve Carson murder suspect to go to trial this fall
A Nov. 29 trial date has been set for Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr., who is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 shooting death of UNC-Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson.

Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr., 20, is charged with first-degree murder in the March 5, 2008, death of Eve Marie Carson, who authorities say was kidnapped, robbed, shot and left dead on a neighborhood street about a half-mile from the UNC campus.
Carson was the university's student body president at the time of her death.
Another man arrested in the case, Demario James Atwater, is serving two life prison sentences after pleading guilty last year to first-degree murder and several federal charges.
Lovette is also one of two men charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 18, 2008, death of 29-year-old Abhijit Mahato, a Duke University graduate student found dead in his off-campus apartment. A date hasn't yet been set for that trial.
If convicted of killing Carson, Lovette faces a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
