Chapel Hill Police Officer In Trouble With Law

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Chapel Hill police officer is in trouble with the law.

Officer Alan Philley is charged with driving while impaired and failure to report an accident.

Carborro police said Philley was driving his personal car Sunday night, when he crashed on West Brook Drive. Police say Philley apparently had gone into nearby woods, and they did not catch up to him until he came back out a short while later.

Philley was treated and released at UNC Hospitals, where a blood test was taken to determine blood-alcohol level.

Philley has been with the Chapel Hill Police Department since 1994.

Philley is on administrative leave pending an investigation. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 12.
