Authorities Make Arrests In Another Alleged Raleigh Brothel

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police said they have now busted up five brothels in the past year.

Police said the latest brothel they raided operated just south of downtown at a home at 919 Carolina Pines Road.

Acting on a tip, police arrested five people early Tuesday morning and late Monday night; a sixth person received a citation.

Police said even as they made the raid with marked patrol cars outside the home, more people tried to enter the home. They told police they were visiting friends.

Police said like most of the other brothels they have busted, this one focused on prostitution -- there were no illegal drug or alcohol sales.

"This house had three bedrooms in it. The only furniture in it was a mattress, there's not even a bed -- just mattresses on the floor. So it looks like they had facilities for three prostitutes to operate at one time," said Lt. Kent Sholar of the Raleigh Police Department.

Police do not believe the brothel is connected to the other ones they uncovered in the city.

The police task force said it believe it has made progress, but also said there is more work to be done.

Police have also raided three other Triangle brothels; two in Durham and one in Cary.
