Operation Wolfpack Cracks Down On Motorists

Operation Wolfpack was a joint effort by the state Highway Patrol, Division of Motor Vehicles, Raleigh police and the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

"All of us working together, we can learn things from each other, so if they see a truck that's in violation, then they can stop it and contact one of us to do a federal motor carrier inspection on it," said Lt. Mark Nichols of the DMV's enforcement section.

Operation Wolfpack ran from about 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Officers pulled over 100 drivers and issued 80 tickets.

Six tractor-trailers were taken off the road because they were in dangerous condition.

Wake County is one of 27 counties nationwide targeted by the federal govermment because it has an unusually high number of wrecks involving trucks.
