Fayetteville, N.C. — Emelia Noa is desperate to find out what happened to her 23-year-old sister, Sophia Hanchett.
"She's an artist. She's a dreamer. She's pretty. She's just the best sister in the world," Noa said Thursday.
Noa said she last spoke to Hanchett on the phone Monday evening. Hanchett said she was in the Cross Creek Mall parking lot waiting for someone interested in purchasing one of her portraits.
"I didn't get any negative reading from her. I just felt it was routine. I looked forward to seeing her afterward, but she never came home," Noa said.
On Tuesday night, Hanchett missed a family dinner she had planned in honor of her brother who was about to leave for military training, Noa said.
Noa says the person her sister was meeting could have been someone she met on Craigslist, where Hanchett would often sell her art.
Noa said it is unlike her sister not to e-mail, text or return repeated phone calls from her and other family members.
"I'm praying for an optimistic outcome, but I also have to be strong to handle anything that happens," Noa said.
Anyone with information about Hanchett's whereabouts should call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
