— Police are investigating the shooting death of a Fort Bragg soldier found outside a Fayetteville hotel Wednesday night.

Officials at the Army post confirmed Thursday that the man was a soldier. His identity, however, has not been released.

Police responding to a report of gunshots at the Innkeeper Hotel at 1720 Skibo Road found the man around 11 p.m. lying between two vehicles. He had been shot in the head.

The hotel's manager said the victim was not staying at the hotel.

“Our detectives are following up on every lead that they come across," Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said. "They're going where the investigation leads them at this time, but we don't have anyone we're identifying this time as a person of interest in this case.”

MacRoberts said police were called to the same hotel two hours earlier Wednesday evening after a woman reported hearing gunshots and seeing someone running from the scene.

It was unclear if police found anything while responding to that call, but investigators believe the report is related to the 11 p.m. shooting.

I am amazed at how many uninformed people jump to conclusions about situations. This really is a reflection of the lack of integerty of the posters. It is scary to think these same people are potential members of jury pools.

I am sorry but it was not a lame comment that I said earlier. Just so many jump to conclusions when nothing like that has been stated. There can be many other reasons he was at the hotel. No one knows except the deceased and the suspect. One can not just assume that it was cause of drugs until it all comes out. Like another poster said, "He could of been defending himself"
It is so sad something like this had to happen. No one deserves to be shot and killed period.

A study a few years back revealed a large part of the crimes in Fayetteville stems from friends or family of military personnel.

They don't call it Fayette-nam for nothin'. But I agree with the previous poster...that much military presence in addition to the police should reveal a lower crime rate than it seems to.

Proudof - "WOW can not get over how some people jump to conclusions to why he was at this hotel."

Amazed too that WRAL posts those lame comments, but won't post the comments of someone who rebuts them.

    Interesting bias shown here.

Praying for those who loved this soldier.

Itis sad that Fayettville has such a high rate of crime..a city which has military base should have the minimum crime rate..sad we cannot control the crime rate in our back yard and yet are ready to solve other countries problems
