FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A former employee of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office offered to resign before she and two other women filed a sexual harassment lawsuit.
Sgt. Dawn Hamerla sent a letter of resignation to Sheriff Moose Butler, reportedly indicating she was upset by the way complaints were handled. She was one of three women who filed a lawsuit last year.
The women later accused Butler of retaliating after the suit was filed.
Hamerla has accepted a job at Methodist College as a campus police officer.
