WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Wake County authorities are investigating a deadly house fire.
The fire started around 8 a.m. at the four-room home on 944 East Garner Road just outside Garner. Authorities said one man was killed. Neighbors believe the victim is 85-year-old George Lassiter, who lived alone in the house.
"I ran up there and there was smoke coming out of every little crack in the house. I knocked on the door and banged on the window where I knew that he stayed and I got no response," neighbor Bruce Deaver said.
The Wake County Fire Marshall's office has ruled the fire accidental and not suspicious. Investigators are trying to figure out what started the fire.
