Benson May Hold Mule Days Without Horses

Posted Updated

BENSON, N.C. — Benson may have to "buck" tradition by holding Mule Days without the horses.

The 52-year-old festival draws thousands of people from all over, most of them on horseback. However, that has led to problems with safety, security and traffic congestion.

The Benson Chamber of Commerce has proposed to the town board that horses not be allowed in the town limits during Mule Days.

A town board member said officials will consider restrictions, but probably not that extreme.
